01 — Introduction
Why are so many practitioners searching for removal solutions?
The global Permanent Makeup market has quietly reversed. A significant portion of new clients are no longer coming in for fresh procedures — they are coming in to correct a previous one. Color migration, shape changes, and over-saturated iron oxide pigment have created surging demand for safe, effective microblading removal and eyebrow tattoo removal.
Whether the issue is microblading that healed too dark, permanent makeup that aged into blue-grey tones, or a shape that no longer fits the client's face — the question practitioners need to answer is not whether to remove, but which method to use.
"Placing new pigment over faded, discolored microblading almost always produces a compromised result. Removal first — even partial — gives you full control of the canvas."

The 3 professional methods for microblading removal
Not every method is right for every client. Skin type, pigment depth, pigment chemistry, and practitioner scope of practice all determine which approach is appropriate. Here is an honest comparison of the three main options.
Q-switched Nd:YAG or PicoSure delivers light energy that shatters pigment particles. Critically, iron oxide pigments common in cosmetic tattoos risk immediate darkening on laser exposure before they fade — a significant concern for the brow area. Requires medical supervision in most jurisdictions.
A hypertonic saline solution is tattooed into the skin via PMU machine. The osmotic action draws pigment upward through a scab. Safe for all skin tones, no pigment darkening risk. Results vary significantly by practitioner skill and pigment depth. Scarring risk if sessions are spaced too closely.
A patented, non-invasive protocol invented by Linda Paradis and protected by patents across 12+ countries. No needles, no heat, no incisions — Magnetic Tattoo Removal works with the body's own biology using a surface magnetic application. Suitable for all skin types. Performable by certified PMU artists worldwide without medical supervision.

04 — How many sessions
What determines how many sessions are needed?
This is the most frequently asked question in the removal space — and the honest answer is: it depends. A realistic expectation for complete microblading removal using any professional method is 3–12 sessions, spaced no less than 4–6 weeks apart.
- Pigment depth — the deeper the pigment, the more sessions required regardless of method
- Pigment type and color — black responds faster to laser; warm iron oxide tones suit saline or MTR
- Age of the procedure — fresh microblading under 6 months can respond more quickly
- Skin type and cell turnover — oily skin fades procedures faster; dry skin retains pigment longer
- The method chosen — each has a different mechanism and timeline
Attempting to rush the process — by scheduling sessions too close together or using aggressive techniques — is the primary cause of scarring in the removal space. Always work with a certified practitioner.
05 — Healing process
What to expect after eyebrow tattoo removal
Regardless of method, the healing arc follows a similar timeline. Aftercare compliance is as important as the procedure itself.
Redness, mild swelling, and sensitivity in the treated area. Keep clean and dry. Avoid sun exposure entirely.
A scab or crust forms as pigment is drawn to the surface (saline and related methods). Do not pick or scratch — this is the single most important aftercare rule.
Scab falls off naturally. Skin beneath appears lighter and may look pink or slightly raw. This is normal and expected.
Skin regenerates fully. Pigment continues to fade as the lymphatic system processes broken-down particles. True results are not visible until this phase is complete.
What to avoid during healing
- Sun exposure and UV tanning beds
- Swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas
- Makeup or active skincare applied directly to the treated area
- Picking, rubbing, or scratching
- Exfoliating treatments on or near the brow
06 — FAQ
Frequently asked questions about microblading removal
Yes, in most cases microblading can be significantly reduced or fully removed with professional treatment. Very deep or heavily layered procedures may retain trace amounts of pigment after multiple sessions — this is uncommon but should be disclosed during consultation.
Typically 3–12 professional sessions, spaced no less than 4–6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on pigment depth, pigment type, age of the procedure, skin type, and the method selected.
Laser removal involves discomfort comparable to a rubber band snap and requires topical anesthesia. Saline removal produces sensation similar to the original microblading procedure. Magnetic Tattoo Removal® is non-invasive and produces significantly milder sensations than either needle or laser-based methods.
Laser eyebrow tattoo removal typically costs $150–$450 per session. Saline removal costs $100–$300 per session. Full removal across all sessions typically ranges from $500–$3,500 depending on the method, location, and number of sessions required.
Laser removal carries elevated risk for Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI due to hyperpigmentation risk. Saline removal and Magnetic Tattoo Removal® are both considered safer options for darker skin tones, though practitioner skill and aftercare compliance remain critical factors in any case.
Most practitioners recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks after the original procedure for the skin to fully heal before beginning any removal protocol. Emergency removal of fresh microblading within the first week is sometimes possible via saline methods but should only be performed by experienced practitioners.
